'One Stop Healthcare Shop'
Many of the Imani House clients have psychiatric disorders and are offered psychiatric services in the form of medication management, medication assisted treatment and outreach (homeless) services at SHS Central in addition to other community resources. Each client is also offered community support through our DMH certified CSTAR programing to connect them to key services and resources critical to sustaining long-term recovery. Individuals served at Imani House benefit from our “one stop healthcare shop”, offering substance use treatment, primary care, dentistry, ob-gyn, pediatrics and optometry. Family treatment is also a focus of care, as substance use impacts the entire family and often recovery includes changes in those relationships.
Helping A Variety Of People
Our target population includes consumers who are 18 or older and have a pattern of illicit drug use; this includes people who are:
- IV drug users
- pregnant or six months postpartum
- enrolled participants in Jackson County and Municipal Drug Courts
- supervised through probation/parole by the Missouri Department of Corrections
- homeless
- individuals who frequent the hospital
- dealing with co-occurring disorders.
All clients served must be Missouri residents or homeless in Missouri. The expected outcomes of treatment include an improvement in health outcomes, reductions in legal problems and hospitalizations, and improved functioning in work, family and social settings.
The Need For Services
Based on a report compiled by the Behavioral Health Epidemiology committee for Missouri, in Jackson County 4,000 (approximately 6%) low-income residents in our service area were treated for substance use disorders and another 11,000 (14% ) were treated for mental health disorders (Status Report of Missouri’s Substance Abuse and Mental Health Problems 2013).
Jackson County Substance Abuse Treatment Indicators show a continued need for Imani House treatment: ER Visits, Impaired Drivers, Alcohol/Drug Arrests, Substance Related Deaths, Probation Parole Cases, Increased Prison Admissions, Mentally Ill (Bi-Polar/Schizophrenia) dual-diagnoses and Developmentally Disabled Diagnoses are some of the needs associated with the problems we will be addressing within our community and Jackson County at Imani House SUD Facility.
Staying Engage In Program
There is a high rate of homelessness, unemployment, limited access to healthcare for the consumers that are requesting substance abuse/mental health services. Community Support Services for those economically deprived individuals are offered as well. Imani House provides employment assistance, housing assistance, transportation assistance, food stamp/social security and Medicaid application assistance with one to one individualized care. As a result they will remain engaged in our substance abuse treatment facility and stand a better chance of changing their life circumstances.
