Creating A Foundation For Lasting Recovery
For over two decades, Healing House has remained a trusted beacon of hope and healing for individuals recovering from Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and Opioid Use Disorder (OUD). With more than 23 years of proven, person-centered practices, Healing House provides stable housing and comprehensive recovery support services that promote long-term wellness.
A Safe Place To Begin Again
Healing House offers a safe, structured, and welcoming residential environment for individuals on their journey to recovery. Recognizing that successful recovery is not just about overcoming addiction, but about rebuilding lives, the program focuses on the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of every participant.
Residents are supported with essential daily living needs, including guidance in self-care, access to family counseling, stable housing, and assistance with employment, education, and vocational training. Practical help is provided with job applications, resume building, interview preparation, and transportation to ensure residents have the resources to regain independence and confidence.
Whole-Person Recovery Support
At the heart of Healing House is a robust Recovery Support Services model that nurtures both individual progress and community belonging. These services are designed to supplement traditional treatment with long-term support systems that reduce the risk of relapse and foster ongoing personal growth.
Participants are encouraged to engage in peer-based recovery groups, 12-step meetings, and optional faith-based activities that provide emotional and spiritual grounding. Healing House promotes a culture of mutual support, offering residents a vital sense of social connection and inclusion—powerful antidotes to the isolation that often accompanies addiction.
Through mentoring by Certified Peer Support Specialists, participants receive one-on-one guidance from individuals who have experienced similar challenges and found lasting recovery. These mentors help connect participants to individualized resources and provide a living example of what’s possible through perseverance and support.
The Urgent Need For Recovery Support
Substance Use Disorder continues to be a serious public health concern in Missouri. More than 520,000 adults—over 7% of the state's population—meet the criteria for SUD. Unfortunately, a troubling statistic reveals that over 78% of individuals who complete inpatient treatment relapse within six months if they lack access to ongoing recovery support services.
This highlights the critical role of programs like Healing House. Individuals who receive structured support after treatment are significantly more likely to maintain long-term sobriety. Without it, many fall back into harmful patterns that can result in incarceration, institutionalization, or even death.
Healing House fills this gap by offering the extended care and support many individuals desperately need but often cannot find. While traditional treatment may provide a starting point, Healing House ensures that recovery becomes a sustainable, community-supported way of life.
Building A Sober, Joyful Community
Healing House believes that sobriety should be supported not only through counseling and classes but also through joyful connection. Residents enjoy a wide range of healthy social activities including game nights, dances, sporting events, bingo, trivia contests, and holiday celebrations. These events are often open to family members, reinforcing healthy relationships and providing opportunities for loved ones to witness the transformation of their family member firsthand.
A signature aspect of the Healing House community is its encouragement of participants to share their journeys—offering stories of hope, resilience, and success that inspire others to keep moving forward. These moments of storytelling are powerful reminders that recovery is not just possible, but deeply fulfilling.
Responding To Growing Demand
The need for recovery support services has never been greater. With the loss of funding for many inpatient treatment centers and the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of available beds and support services has declined significantly across Missouri.
Healing House has stepped up to meet the rising demand. The organization now receives over 1,000 calls annually from individuals seeking help, and maintains an eight-week waiting list for its residential program. This demand reflects both the urgency of the addiction crisis and the widespread trust Healing House has built in the recovery community.
To extend its reach, Healing House operates a Community Outreach Center, providing immediate assistance for individuals who are struggling to access treatment, transitional housing, or outpatient services. This center offers critical support for those in crisis, helping them find placement, navigate systems, and take the first steps toward recovery.
In addition, Healing House runs a Recovery Community Center where individuals—whether residents or not—can receive a hot meal, access clean clothing, attend recovery classes and 12-step meetings, and connect with peer mentors. These services ensure that even those without housing or insurance have a place to find support, stability, and a path forward.
A Commitment That Lasts
What sets Healing House apart is not only its deep experience and evidence-based approach, but its unwavering belief in the potential of every individual it serves. The program doesn’t just help people survive addiction—it helps them build lives filled with purpose, connection, and dignity.
In a landscape where too many people fall through the cracks after initial treatment, Healing House provides a stable bridge to lasting change. With a supportive community, practical resources, and compassionate guidance, residents are empowered to reclaim their lives and become healthy, contributing members of society.
Healing House’s long-standing success proves what research and experience confirm: long-term recovery is not only possible, it is most likely to succeed when individuals are surrounded by consistent care, housing stability, and a community that believes in them.
